America:
In all your vastness
I see beautiful plains,
mountain chains,
skyscrapers towering over cities,
I see good, honest people,
but purity always mixes with evil.
America, you are full of hate,
of prejudice and cruelty,
children are being kidnapped,
teenagers are shooting up their schools,
lives are being lost in war,
the poor are getting poorer,
the rich are getting richer.
America, I dream for you.
I long to see open fields remain open --
we can do without another apartment complex --
I yearn to see the end to animal exploitation --
we can do without the circus and fur coats --
I long to see a man marry a man, in every state --
we can do without the judgment.
America, I wish you would listen to me.
I hope to never see the Arctic ravaged for oil,
I hope to see our brave soldiers return home soon,
I hope someday our worship of fame ceases,
I hope we help the starving of the world,
I hope we care for the African orphans of AIDS,
I hope we give ourselves a good name throughout the world.
America, we must not fall
to ruling under one religion,
America, we must not push
all our allies away,
America, we must not close
our ears, our eyes, our minds,
we need to be aware.
America, we need help.
I wish to see women walk alone
free from fear of being raped,
I wish to see life get easier for those
who struggle to make ends meet,
I wish to see forests and rivers
free from destruction and waste.
America:
In all your glory, I see your faults.
America, until the day where we are
all safe from prejudice, hate, and cruelty,
until that day, we are not the best we can be,
until that day, there is no chance for peace,
until that day, you will never be the America in my dreams.

I agree completely and totally. I really like this, because I can relate to it, and I think it expresses the veiws of alot of other people as well.

This was AWESOME to put it bluntly and I
agree with you on everything except for one
minor aspect. Very good poem though and
just dripping with truth I am glad that I am not
alone with my beliefs.
