Out of the Dark

You swore, you smoked,
You wanted a crew.
You hated everybody,
And you even hated you.
Your world was always dark,
Always damp, filled with hate.
Instead of walking away,
From all the crime, you couldn’t wait.
Then a stupid little white girl,
Picked you up while you were down.
Gave you time to learn of love,
As well as time to look around.
Now you love that stupid white girl,
And you thank her all the time.
Her portrait is with you always,
And it kind of looks like mine.
How’s it feel to just stand up?
How does it feel to stretch, to walk?
Do you like being able to smile and laugh?
Do you like being heard when you talk?
When you were sitting in that room,
Where it was dark, and quiet, not right?
Were you happy when you saw a hand break through,
And bring you out to face light?
Are you happy that now you can live a good life?
Filled will love, being loved, and a spark.
Are you glad that my hand was the one that came through,
And pulled you out of the dark?
Good, because I love you.
(For my one and only, Jacob. From your "stupid little white girl")

You poem reminds me of a lighthouse ("...stupid white girl...pulled you out of the dark..."). The man you speak about is like a sailor being eager to hit the waters ("...Instead of walking away, from all the crime, you couldn't wait..."); he sort of knew that the voyage through the waters could lead to death and destruction ("...you world was always dark...damp...")...until he saw the beakon.
Nice Work -- Keep your pen moving... |

Awww. There is so much love behind your words, it's impossible to not see that.
You seem luck in this way. I think.
Another great write, with another great message,
Phil |
