Certain Fragile Things

It seems that my mind has grown careless with certain fragile things
Like my first memory of you, to the infinite nothings
That I whispered in your ear.
And however deep I bury these delicate, peaceful thoughts
They are always there to haunt me; they are always there to make my heart stop.
It isn’t fear, you see, but more of a longing for how things should be,
A desire for a dream that could never quite be reality,
But hope is not a truth, not even a certainty.
No it is a reason to sit and wait until night has turned to day,
And day will surely follow the night in their endless repetitive cycle.
Only this is not a thing of beauty like I once believed.
It’s not a moment to make us smile,
Like a playful dog chasing its tail. I’m afraid this is heartache.
Yes, hope it seems has failed me, leaving me to wait,
Waiting for disappointment to come around again.
I must remember where I hide you, so next time I will not lose track,
And these playful, joyous thoughts will be once again locked inside
Deep enough to be forgotten, that is, until they find their way back.
Because it really is a joy to feel those horribly, beautiful pains of love
…again.
Cause it almost makes me certain that I will find you once more too.

That is a great poem. If I could color it, I would color it a dark, deep shade of yellow. This is because I think that a main 'Certain Fragile Thing' is hope itself. Just like a yellow traffic light changes to red, hope could lead you to a halt. "...leaving me to wait...for disappointment..." In my eyes, you could either have not cared for what you wanted, or your hope could be 'worn out' and hasty. "...a reason to sit and wait until night has [turned] to day..."
Nice Job -- Keep the pen moving... |
