My Life

Contributed by thejoker on Sunday, 21st July 2002 @ 08:19:28 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Why is it that you have to abide by someone else's rules?
Can't I just be left alone to make my own mistakes?
Nobody taught me how to steal or hate or be cruel
My parents were never there, but I don't blame them for my fate

The smallest things I had to learn by myself
Things you see in movies that are shared by family
I learned to shave and iron and to share what I've felt
Except with my family who ends up always looking sad at me

It's my fault in the way that I turned out
I don't point at anyone saying it was because of you
I take responsibility for what I'm all about
Friends is all I have now, I love them because they're true

I've lost all I've ever known, love and lust for flesh
I can't open up unless I know you're trying to see who I am
Nobody in this world can understand I'm not trying to impress
I'm not trying to be a man just because I took a stand

My friends are falling from me because I defended them all
In the craziest of ways, I threatened an adversary
But they can't comprehend what I'd do to catch them when they fall
My best girl looks at me and now she's very worried

I get a call from a long lost love and friend
The only one who understands why I defended in such a way
The little Christian girl who knew nothing of violence
Is now defending my word and can see how I love to prey

The enemies I make are only because they beefed with my best homies
They know I'd die for them no matter if they told me not to
If they risk themselves I won't let them because I'm holy
I've known only to live for someone else because it's true

My life isn't mine in fact it belongs to you
When you say jump, I ask you from what side of the bridge?
When I die for you I don't want to see you all blue
Smile for me forever and to show me that I'm missed

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
