Bruised and Battered

Contributed by white_tiger on Saturday, 26th March 2005 @ 12:41:48 AM in AEST
Topic: Grief

Every night, I stare at your photograph
Wishing you were by my side
Your face that haunts me as I sleep
My heart that aches so bad inside.
Memories that come soaring back
Aren’t always easy to control,
Now at you’re gone, don’t you realise
That my heart now holds a hole.

And that hole can never be healed
For my beloved gave it to me,
However heard that I may try
It’s only your face that I can see.
Your eyes that were filled with tears
When you told me that dreaded day,
That just because you had to go
It doesn’t mean all life blows away.

But it may be easier said than done
Because now I’m under the knife,
Each day is a struggle for me to get past
As my soul is constantly filled with strife.
I picture you standing next to me
Arms open wide; smile filled with care,
But every time I opened my eyes
You were always never there.

Dreams seem much better than reality
I wish I could always live in the past,
Living in those carefree days with you
Why does time have to travel so fast?
I can see your face in everyone else
People think that I’m going insane,
But to me, it’s a dream come true
In another form, to me you came.

My heart only beats for your life
I only breathe to let you live,
My eyes yearn to see you every day
My whole well being to you I give.
But behind me, I hear a crash
There lay your photo; all pieces shattered,
And there I can see your tear-stained face
Where my heart lies bruised and battered.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
