Why Then?

With time gone by, I thought I would heal,
My mind thought it wise to get past 'what was'
But all of the hoping was something unreal,
My mind knows not what my heart does...
If even I know my thoughts of you are forbidden,
And I try to keep these secret thinkings away,
Why then do I continue to keep my memories hidden,
And silently wish you would come back to stay?
Why then do I want for you to know I think of you,
When truly I question if that is best?
All of my emotions are strained by wanting it to be true,
Yet all I can think of is if you'd be impressed.
Why then do I wish for the news of my life,
To pass through the vines and into your mind?
I want you to know how well I am moving on,
When really I only think of my heartbreaking loss.
My rational mind cannot see the good it would do,
So why then, do I wish you knew?
My honest mind wishes that you would take one glance,
And see right through my fragile facade.
Why then do I mourn my lost romance,
When all I really want is for you to know I am afraid?
