Endless Night

Topic: selfstruggles

one of these days I will wake
with one or two reasons to smile
instead of pasting on a fake
that has gotten me though all the while

this stranger I have become
yet do not understand at all
courage and strength now succumb
and my life has slowed to a crawl

but in the shadows of my room
safe from eyes that know me well
the demons of my private gloom
escape from within my practiced shell

they attack all that's left of me
until time for a new sun to rise
gone back to where no one can see
this has become my daily disguise

few have seen beneath this mask
and couldn't help but turn away
now I am left alone with the task
of turning this endless night into day
