Little girl inside her room
Locked away from everyone
She cannot dig in dirt
She cannot fly a kite
She cannot learn to ride a bike
She isn’t allowed to go out to run.
Window boarded keeping out the sun
Birdie’s chirp outside on green tress
Hope is needed with her today.
She hears fighting in the room
Glass is shattering to little bits
Screams echoing through the walls
Sitting in her “special corner” she escapes
Wild flowers grow up from the floor
The door is covered in vines of protection
A waterfall runs from her closet to her bed
Butterflies all colors and shapes flutter around
“POOF” the safety is gone.
Banging continues on her door
Afraid to see what’s on the other side
Slowly she opens it a crack each minuet
He comes raging through like a blood eyed bull
Fallen to the floor she curls up in a ball
Numbness builds around her heart
Shutting down the world around her
Wishing this cruelty would disappear.
