He fears, like any man on planet earth
Approaching horror, and sweats drops of blood
That will redeem mankind and lift the curse,
And keep the soil of continents bedewed.
Behold! God fears like men of common clay,
By choice He fears this Savior to redeem
And in the dusky garden kneels to pray
While silent are the choirs of seraphim.
Disciples snooze, shut-eyed in dormancy,
The flesh is weak,- they will not share with Him,
The hour of his nearing agony,-
The moon behind the trees lurks wane and dim.
Fists pounding hard the earth,- dismay-
Sinister rustllng foliage,- Oh,- He fears:
“Please Abba take this bitter cup away!”
His heart is crushed, His face is stained with tears.
His flowing matted hair is drenched with sweat
Beneath the gnarled ancient olive tree.
Sinister mists are dancing round His head,-
Flit through the Garden of Gethsemane.
Short-sighted painters - you that paint this Christ,
At prayer, self-possessed, composed, tranquil,-
No brush could have such anguish lionized,
Convulsed, prostrate in grips of deadly chill.
Behold! - the solitary figure kneel,-
Foreboding shadows spectral phantoms sneer,-
Abandoned to dark powers while He feels
The hour of the sacrifice draw near.
More human never has the world seen God,-
Ask the Almighty if He can perceive
The pain of Jesus kneeling in the sod,
And emphasize with so much pain and grief.

Nice job, this was something good to read. It's so true that God and Jesus
really do understand our pain and grief and we can't put that into words
or into a picture. Thanks for posting.

Outstanding, you're without peer. A wonderful example of how the deity of Christ didn't eliminate the humanity of Christ: as He humanly said; " who touched me, " - " My God why hast thou forsaken me ?, " and Deity says; " cast your net on the right side of the boat, " and " For this purpose came I into the world, " etc. |

Alone, abandoned, and living in the body of lowly man, He suffered as His followers lay asleep, while Satan tempted Jesus . . . as only Satan can. Alone, with no-one but the Father, He asked to be allowed His final fate. The death of pain that had to be His life’s last breath, in order to reopen heavens gate.
Magnificence in writing. Wondrous in story. Eternal in it’s message. (John)

I must post my additional thoughts as I read this for a second time:
That a loving God would take the form of man in order to satisfy man’s Original sin against Him is, perhaps the ultimate sacrifice that we are capable of understanding when it comes to the extent of His love for His children.
Limitless is just another word until it is applied to God’s love, when He, as Jesus, suffered in mankind’s place in Gethsemane. No words are capable of creating such a picture of a Father’s pure love, which would allow His children eternal access to His Kingdom.
Lessons learned, by those such as I, are lessons taught, by those such as you. Thank you Elizabeth.
John
