The first cut isn't very deep at all.
It's like a scrape.
Just a little skin off the surface.
Doesn't even bleed.
In a day or two, you won't even know you've been cut.
We take those days for granted.
My love, she said, I fear I am wasting away.
A few more cuts and I think I will never stop bleeding.
Because you see, she said, even though it starts as minor aches and pains...
These kind of things can add up pretty severely.
Stuff like this get get stacked up pretty high.
(So high it's like you not even alive...so high that everthing is played out like bad dreams.)
Because even though that first scrape can heal over...
You get them more often as you get older.
Till the blade comes down so frequently...
And the cuts start going in so deeply...
That eventually they get to the point when they can heal over...
(They just bleed and bleed and bleed...
And no one can live like that.)
Still everywere I see people walking the street baring cuts that seam to go in so deep.
And I have suspected that a part of growing old is letting the wounds bleed.
And waiting for that day when all of the blood of youth is bled away...
And life is full of those days when the scrapes where small...
The days when the scrapes could fade.
How I miss those days.
