WHEN YOU WALKED

Contributed by THUGGIN4REAL on Tuesday, 22nd March 2005 @ 04:01:32 PM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

TO MY FATHER WHO FADED AWAY
MY LIFE WAS HARD
SO WHY DIDNT YOU STAY
ON THE STREETS I WAS DYING
DID YOU CARE
OR WERE YOU TRYING
I CLOSED MY EARS TO WHAT THEY SAID
AS A KID
I SHED SOME TEARS IN MY BED
CHASED YOU DOWN WOULD I COULD
BUT YOU CHANGED YOUR NUMBER
LIKE I KNEW YOU WOULD
YOU GAVE ME MONEY
TO EASE YOUR PAIN
WHAT WAS WANTED
WASN'T BLAME
I TALKED ABOUT YOU ALL THE TIME
EVEN TIL THIS DAY
YOUR ON MY MIND
IN MY MIRROR IS MY FACE
WE NO LONGER RESEMBLE EACH OTHER
CAUSE YOUR A DISGRACE
YOU'LL NEVER BE A MAN
BUT WILL FOREVER BE REMEMBERED AS A COWARD
I'VE FACED MY PROBLEMS
AND STILL REMAINED TALL
LIKE A TOWER
I LET GO OF YOUR GUILT
CAUSE THAT PAIN IN MY HEART
COULDN'T LAST ANY LONGER
CAUSE WHEN YOU DECIDED TO WALK OUT ON ME
IT ONLY MADE ME STRONGER

I can relate to this in a way, my father was never actually "with" my mum but they were really good friends and he left me by choosing two other women, two who demanded that he leave me behind, and he agreed. I'm getting over it now though, and I'm grateful that I at least get to speak with him now and again.

This is yet another outstanding write from you, another masterpiece. Its deep, expressive and emotional. Truly beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Take Care
- Becca

Wow, very very strong poem, I can feel the anger and emotion put into this poem, it reminds me of my dad because he never even knew his real dad. Stay strong.

This piece can hit a nerve with lots of people...In my own experience the dad I knew as a child was very different from the man I know as my dad today. He and my mom split up when I was about 4 years old. He chose his "other woman" over my mom. But as an adult I know I had no control over him and he is to me now what I never knew I needed as a child. Beautiful emotional piece...Loven it!!!

You always said that it would be his loss. Isn't it a different feeling when you truly believe it? Beautifully written. Great Job!
