Death's a Spectator

Topic: DarkPoetry

Death's a passenger in a car tonight.
He hitched a ride with a shaky teen,
his friend, his beer, his home coming queen.
The road becomes gray as he gives direction,
through the stoplight at the intersection,
oncoming traffic, blazing lights, blurred seconds,
twisted metal, burning wreakage,
Death takes his new friends home.

Death's a student in school today.
Clad in black like in the movies,
pulls back his coat, reveals an uzi,
Death comforts the guard who waits at the door,
gives rites to the ex pooling on the floor.
Checks on the friends holding each other,
passes for the freshman who tried to save his brother,
ten feet away he takes them to meet again.
At the end of the hall way, right next to his brain,
he takes away furious bringer pain.

Death's a doctor at the hospital today.
Pleas echo upon dead ears,
it is in this place he's feared.
A mother pleads for an unhearing daughter
he took away from an uncaring father.
Too young to die, too pained to live,
machine gives out, as if there's much to give
to an empty hole, the taken soul
has been with him for so long now.

Death's a hope today.
He takes away what we want to stay,
he comes and takes it anyway,
leaves such a gaping effect,
a tombstone and an epiteph,
the cold, the comfort, at the end,
pray that death will be your friend.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
