SMILING CLOWNS

Big shoes, waterbed
Tangled toes, painted red
Smiling clowns playing dead
Poe’s poems ripped to shreds
Alligator tooth on a key chain
In a phone booth callin’ Jane
Dirty food- stomach pain
Mice crawlin’ in soggy rain
Head shaved to the skin
Nothing saved for next of kin
Toxic waste stored in bins
Fish breathing- missing fins
Dark hills, romantic bells
Water spills, Dylan tells
Rolling stones- bombshells
Grieving widows in motels
Backwards clock, numbers skewed
Off the wall, has come unglued
Blank canvases, awaiting their dues
Empty minds, misconstrued
Uninvited guests finally arrive
Two plus two, multiplied by five
Twenty souls do dare strive
To simply beat the night and stay alive
