I sat there
And listened
As you played "Rape Me" over and over again
As you forced this garbage down my throat
And I smiled at you, and nodded my head
And pretended I loved your taste in music
And you said "Wouldn't it be better
If everyone liked rock?
If everyone liked metal
And indie, and punk, and emo?
Wouldn't it be so much easier?"
For someone so "alternative"
You're so narrow-minded
And so terrified of conceptual diversity
So forgive me
For being adversarial
Forgive me for having a different opinion
Forgive me for not wearing bracelets
And studded collars
And band-name hoodies
Forgive me for not being punk, or emo, or indie
Forgive me for not fitting in
I really do wish I had an identity
I wish I had a genre, a box
I wish it was that easy, I do
But mostly, I'm glad
I'm not like you

Intense is what I have to say about your write. More people feel as you do, but don't express it. I am glad that you shared what needed to be said. I like my people what is considered different. I personally don't like carbon copies of anything. One of a kind is what you are and don't go changing for anyone. Good write. |
