Worth Dying For

Contributed by iodinelove on Sunday, 20th March 2005 @ 11:50:01 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Another sleepless night and I become
a multitude of sorrow
watching the slow girls dance.
I breathe I remain I insist
an existence I insist
a subtle peace
parted in my hand.
I am and I am unaware
of what exactly it is
that I am.
I am a man
a shadow sucking life
a suckling promise
promising to be free.
There is no freedom.
Not under any roof
or flag.
No colors take our pain away.
No color brings our brothers back.
No voice raised over a thousand
cheering crowds
will bring my lovers back.
It is all a lie.
It is infancy forgotten
the smallest, sweetest breath
held with care
over the open flame.
It is all a lie.
It is gold
on gold on golden
sunsets setting steel.
It is an empty bridge
over murky waters.
It is the moment.
The moment the music touches you
touches you and you feel free
and you dance and you dance
and you are not free.
It is ten thousand walls
with fifty-eight thousand two hundred and forty five names
etched into their black shining stone.
Year after year old men stand at those walls and cry.
Year after year they are set free
and are never free.
I have not fought in any war.
I have not paid any price.
I have not bled enough
for this page these words
I have not given my life.
But i will tell you
the men who die in wars
do not die for you or me
but for the men who
stand beside them.
There is only one freedom
that they fought for
only one notion
one thought that
they bled for;
and that is love.
We press our freedom to our lips
each day and still our cages
wrought with air and stars
contains us in our place.
But in love...
In love we have no need
to dance or cry or press our lips
we have no need to speak
to write to bleed an empty
blinded sorrow.

And that is freedom.
And that's worth dying for.

This is my first time reading one of your writes if i'm correct. I will Piggy-back what some are saying. This is an amazing write. It really makes you think about things in a diffrent perspective. Great job. Very inspiring.
