These Days

Contributed by fionndruinne on Saturday, 19th March 2005 @ 09:08:55 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

These days march past me
Each of them bringing meanings
Many of them blessed.
But tonight I look back
To times not long passed
Hard days with difficult themes
That I could seldom understand.
I wonder if the darkness I faced
Could have been avoided
Could have been my own making -
Might I have left it behind me
Lost it on lonely paths
If I had told my heart to dwell
On brighter facets of day?
But answer comes back:
I could not have commanded so much.
Strong forces bind our days -
What is a human heart, after all
In the flood tide of life’s ways?
Those waves can always conquer
Could crush such slender walls,
If they were to flow unguided, unchecked.
In some Other’s hand is such dispensation
Made with other plans, perhaps
Other things valued somewhere higher
Than the inclinations of the untaught heart.
I cannot comprehend the plan
By which my days are meted out.
Those trials seem strain to me
And the blessings unexpected
For I cannot foretell futures
Nor see what outcomes these days bring
But one thing I understand -
I am shaped by a wisdom
Far beyond my own
And for that I am thankful.

Andrew ... It is my belief that the way we answer the call of the wisdom that shapes our future ... is what makes us who we are .... and ultimately, who we will be. And I believe that even though you may not understand the master plan ... you sing with an acceptance that says yours will be a voice of reckoning for times eternal. Well written my friend.

I understand this so much Andrew, and like Jarred, I could probably ramble on about this poem for hours.

But I won't..
I'll just say I adore this, and hope you know what I think anyway.

It has been a long time since I have read your poetry. I must say that you write with such heart and so eloquent.

I thought this poem was perfect, flawless.

And, I thought of all the times i've pondered, wondered, and analyzed the before's, each step, my goals, my future only to be faced with the reality that here is now and now is here.

Wisdom is probably the greatest gift one can be given it is priceless.

Wonderful poem fionn.

Yours is the kind of musing which reminds us--regardless of the difficulties we face, the choices we make--that we are the result, though more than the sum, of our experience. As such, our lives (warts and all) are to be viewed as continuous creative processes, rather than as roads with specific destinations.

And, yet, there is something more. Occassionally, we seem to run into the right person at the right time (even if we don't recognize the encounter as such, immediately). At other moments, we learn that not being in the wrong place at the wrong time--when we might otherwise have been at that spot, under other circumstances--saved us. By design or not, the conincidences of daily life are near-inexplicable.

It is in the shadowy realm 'twixt reason and spirit that your poem resides, and from there that it derives it's magic. Good show! Sincerely, -KAC-

I have read each of your poems, and I am very impressed. You have an effortless ability to draw one in and transport them to another time, another place. I have to say, these are some of the most beautiful posts I've seen on this site. Very well thought out and extremely well written. Im looking foreward to reading more.

An intricacy of detail...
“Hard days with difficult themes
That I could seldom understand.”

-How life is precisely that…seldomly construed!

“ Might I have left it behind me
Lost it on lonely paths”

-What mindfulness!
What figurativeness!

“If I had told my heart to dwell
On brighter facets of day?”

-If only it were a possibility… to transpose into lighter (yet much more difficult) emotions…
It is much easier to remain within darkness, than it is to emerge into the light.

“Strong forces bind our days -
What is a human heart, after all
In the flood tide of life’s ways?”

The significance of what we perceive to be one of the greatest attributions to man, may very well pale in significance to the notion as well as the physical and more-so tangible characteristics of life itself.

An unforgettable piece.

An understated but powerful reflection on life and fate, mystical in expression, realistic in meaning. Well expressed.

Amen

I like how you have the days going forward.. marching past you.. leader days, and days that you look back at.. that are bringing up the rear.. what a nice march here..its like eternity, always has been, always will be..this is highly spiritual, this poem...

Andrew, you ... ARE.. a... brilliant writer..

Your friend always,
raquelLeah
