Fireflies In A Jar

Contributed by Dralion on Friday, 18th March 2005 @ 10:07:07 PM in AEST
Topic: DreamsandWishes

So you treat your love like a firefly
that only shines
for a little while

Like fireflies
we gather memories.

Placing them
in our hearts.

Letting their light
shine
to brighten
our darkest hours.

Or warm
anothers
frozen heart.

And we hope
that we've put
some light
in others.

Initially I read your poem based on childhood memories of the many firefly's I captured. Dusk and seeing those greenish blinking lights and being 8 years old was exhilarating!

You are right and wise. We do gather memories and not only do they help us-- that light can make another light flicker on, maybe even create smiles.

Very nice poem. I'm sincerely happy to have found this one.

Kie

Truly poetic in every sense.
I love the analogy... especially the way you ran with it when you mentioned warming another's heart... that gave it a unique little twist.
Very delighted to have read this. I shall remind myself to frequent your pages.

Lots of love and peace,

Chelsea
