The Laundry Across The Coffee Shop

Contributed by Rae on Thursday, 17th March 2005 @ 03:07:40 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

mister, would you like a cup of tea?
come, sit with me.
9 minutes will pass, and
we will still be talking about the tea.
why don't we move on to
observing the weather,
or how silly it is for a lady
to wear a skirt on a windy day?
then we would laugh because i'm wearing one.
then you would scratch your head
and shake my hand, give me your name.
perhaps your occupation, too.
age, hobbies, family background.
social security number perhaps?
and then i would shake my head
and nervously laugh...
thinking how lame i am,
or if you're a stalker or a criminal
or trying to convert me into your religion.
maybe i would blush, too,
by how charming you are
or just because you accidentally
(or did you mean it?)
touched my hand.
guess what, 53 minutes will pass.
now, we're talking about
age, hobbies, family background.
hey, we're flirting!
and then my mind will flutter
to scenes of sunrises,
hide and seek,
church bells ringing.
your voice would fill my head
and i would listen to you intently
and have butterflies in my stomach
like elementary school first crush.
but wait... what's happening now?
leaving too soon?
why don't we progress
to a glass of wine?
and talk about politics
and world peace?
78 minutes will pass,
you've crossed the street.
walking far, far away...
your back drowns in the crowd.
now, you're a dot.

i should have talked to you.

This is a very creative, engaging write. I felt as if I was there, observing your exchange, and I felt that longing you expressed at the end. Well done!
