Man of Shadows

For anyone who doesn't know, the men in blue are the police.

There was a man
In a strange black coat
Walking down the street that rainy night.

Mysterious man he was
Black trench coat
Seemed sewn of shadows

Never did see his face
Kept his head down as he walked
Staring at his empty shoes

Turned a corner
Never looked back
To see who was following him.

Opened a door
In a hidden alley
Thinking he was alone.

But a shadow followed him.
Through the dark halls
Down steep steps.

Into a room
Walked the man
And his shadow

The man turned around
A mask on his face
To see his little girl.

He raised a gun
Pulled a trigger
Exterminated a child.

Little did he know
There was another
Who knew him despite the mask.
He never shot his second follower.

She ran out of the room
Up the steps
Through the halls
Out of the alley.

Tears streaming down her face
She stumbled and tripped without ever quite falling
She arrived at her destination
And mumbled her story.

But the men in blue paid her no mind
Went on with their business
As if she was just a shadow.

When the men in blue wouldn’t listen
She had no where to turn
Her mind folded in on itself.

She collapsed on the floor
Breathing dry and heavy
Unable to move
But able to think.

Suddenly she knew
Just what needed to be done.
She raised herself up,
And ran towards the door.

Back down that alley,
Straight through the halls,
Stumbling down the steps,
Falling into that room.

She caught sight of her daughter,
And walked slowly to her.
Laying down by her little girl
She knew this was how
Her life was meant to end.

Very nice. There's a deep feeling of sadness and helplessness in this poem. Well done.

You show some promise
as a story-poem writer.
