Grey stones were covered with sleepy drowse,
But spinning like distaffs were all th’ town’s troubles.
The place where high was the House of God –
I watched you, women in night-like attires,
With prayer in your eyes, with treason in desires –
Oh, women such moments never forgot!
They gathered, and counted steps from the gate,
And parted again being haunted by shade,
Melting in shade, their eyes in bright hue…
Oh, town! Oh, tempest! Oh, snow unmeasured!
Oh, abyss of broken to pieces azure!
I’m here! I’m innocent! I’m with you! I’m with you!
