Fortress

Topic: DarkPoetry

These ancient walls are inpenetrable.
They’v ebeen made higher and higher even as time erodes.
...Built to withstand such forces of nature.
Protecting me.

I manage to scale these walls from time to time.
I like to see what I’m missing. Everything.
My tears and these walls are constant.
I sit at the top and let my legs dangle over the edges.
For ages, I have tried to summon the courage to jump.
A leap of faith in me.

Reality, like a slap in the face, pulls me back in where I am-safe.

On a good day, I can see years ahead.
Friends I have yet to meet.
I envision myself running through the meadow toward the clouds.
The world would be my haven. Truly safe.
I could hide,
running in a field of flowers for he never stops to smell them.
I could see my friends,
he has none and knows not one of mine.
I could sing my heart out,
and he would not hear my voice for he never listens to me.
I would surrender to all the things he could not drown out of my soul.

I wouldn’t have to run but I couldn’t stay in one place too long.
My roots might take hold. He would never stop searching.

Reality.

I did not build this fortress. Nor this institution.
This place was built at the dawn of the age of man.
Over time, forces of nature could weaken these walls.
I have no more time.
My intentions were forever.
I am now the act of god sent to crumble what man has made.
