I’ve done things I shouldn’t have done,
Down life’s long and weary trail.
I’ve made mistakes, I’m humiliated to say,
That should send me straight to hell.
I can’t even count the people that I’ve hurt,
While on my pleasure ride.
Yet it’s God I hurt most every time,
With the sins that I try to hide.
Sometimes I just can’t believe the trouble I find,
Though I do try my very best.
But what amazes me most is that for lives like mine,
God sent his very blessed.
He sent his son to die on that cross,
Because He knew we were bound to fail.
Jesus loved us enough to die for us,
To save our souls from hell.
And though I’m not perfect, and never will be,
There’s one word I just can’t wait to hear.
When He looks for my name in that Book of Life,
The word “forgiven” will have wiped my slate clear.
God realizes I’m still human, still tempted by sin,
And mistakes, I will make while livin’.
He devised a plan that was created by his love,
So that we all could be forgiven.
