Empty Highways

Contributed by iodinelove on Monday, 14th March 2005 @ 02:30:45 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I grieve, and the Tv screen is a black forest opening to rain; the trees sprinkle leaves over the tired grass, ferns spring up at root and base; I walk, my reflection and the rain coupling brothers fighting to be free.
I need you to understand,
I can no longer dream.
The window is quietly closed, slamming the front door the screen door blowing in the wind. The wind picks up; paper, cigarette butts, and leaves paint my effigy,
spinning spinning spinning,
a green and white stripe along the edge of the world.
I close my eyes
and all...
and all...
and all my poetry is said
and done
and all the world...
and all the world is begun again,
and I remember the first word I wrote
and every page is seeping into my skin
and every sentence is caving in
caving in caving in caving in caving in
the roof hatch the forward motion up above
the sky... and the skies breath is its last breath.
The sky cannot bleed my color my creed
my understanding my indignity; the lights are on, the sun is shining
and I, I take it all for granted.
Poetry is the last ditch effort.
It is loves intensity
falling away from love.
How can I begin to explain?
How can I make you understand?
You deny the truths set before you...
they are set before you waiting,
they are set before you
just as my eyes
my voice
my profanity
is set before me
waiting...
waiting for me to see
and change
and continue on my way
better than before.
Each word
Each space
Each breaking of my thought
Each day and night I sit awake
stripping my flesh of all of its life
until I am naked on my bed
uninformed unaware
drained
and waiting for an empty sleep
so i can sleep
and dream
(to dream again!)
and dream
what i might dream
on some empty highway
going north
west
south
east
walking straight
forward
into the burgundy
black and blue
horizon of my life.

it made me cry, almost sobbing, so it must be good. Tiffany J.
