Father

I remember how you walked away
telling me that everything would be okay.
I should have known it was all a lie
maybe then I would have said good-bye.

I would have turned my back on you
and pretended there was nothing left to do.
But instead I waited all these years
like there was a meaning behind these tears.

It was you who helped me build this wall
everytime you failed to call.
But I'm no worse for the wear
for I have finally ceased to care.

I was just a child who did no wrong
it was your fault all along.
You made a mistake for which I had to pay
and because of that I have just one thing to say.

You are a coward, not even a man
how you live with yourself I don't understand.
You chose your actions and made your choice
giving birth to a child who now has a voice.

I've spent too much time hating you
for all the things you've put me through.
Now as a woman I can safely say
that it was me who walked away.

You don't deserve this forgivness from me
but this is MY chance to finally be free.
I will let go of all the pain inside
and you can live your life trying to hide.

There is one thing I know for sure
that I'm the one with a heart that's pure.
So live your life like it's make-pretend
but I'm the winner in the end.

I could have written some of this myself, I can definitely relate. Men are just gits sometimes, aren't they? It seems that they prefer to live in their own little fantasy world. An excellent write here, keep your chin up and your pen to paper, so to speak.

Take Care

That's a powerful line. I really can relate to that.

Excellent write. The poem speaks for itself.
