Dress my little girl
In pretty clothes and
spiraled curls
I want her looking swell
For the occasion I can't tell
Finely dressed
Bearing an innocent smile
They walked and walked
A few hundred miles
The little girl wanted to question
her father
Answer she knew he wouldn't
Ignoring her he'd rather
Merrily skipping along
They made their way to the woods
Going to a party she thought
She clearly must've misunderstood
The father picked up a shovel and
Dug dirt from the ground
Worried her father's nice clothes
were getting dirty
She wiped his clothes right around
He dug a small deep hole
Then told her to get in
She didn't question her father
For that would be a sin
In the dark hole she sat
Tears flowing down her face
Her father started to shovel dirt on her
At a quick pace
His little girl pleaded
Why he didn't love her anymore?
For to him she was the shame
That his wife had bore
So he buried her alive
Under the forsaken ground
The little girl muffled
Until the ground made no more
sound........
Back in the ancient arabian days, if a women gave birth to a daughter first they used to kill the child. For she was a shame to her family. A birth of a boy meant honour and that the family will be well looked after when they grew older.
Sad, but unfortunately this tale is true.

I cry for our opressed sisters across the ocean. This ritual use to take place a long time ago, but their are still female infantcides taking place around the world. Good poem, sad, but good. |

Omg... that's awful, and so sad, my heart almost broke just reading about it.
Sometimes...the human race disgusts me.
Great poem though, the best ones are always ones that bring reactions.

Really amazingly dark, sad, but well spoken and good. It's sad how true this is...nice job conveying this act in poetry.

Wow... I really really liked this. It is so sad for that to happen. Just the fear and heartbreak in the little girl would have been unbearable. Even the father had to be dying inside. Crazy...
