Water.
Rain that falls on my roof is led by
a pipe into and down my cistern,
which now is full and I’m rich.
Water is source of all life, gold
doesn’t sustain life it’s merely
a slave’s chain like a wedding ring
In summers I have to refill my
cistern before it gets empty tiny
fishes live there and I can’t let
‘em die. Buy it from a farmer and is
he rich! When I open the cisterns
lid and if a fish happen to look up
it thinks it has seen the face of God.
This worries me, especially if they
pray for me to protection them ‘cause
I can’t stop them eating each other
or fighting silly wars about whom
has the right to swim where, all
I can do is to top up with water and
let them get on with life.

Wow... what a precious poem! I love this, the style just like thoughts taken straight from your mind and tossed upon the page as they flowed... this is a wonderful poem. Thank you so very much for sharing. |
