Irish Maggie

She floats along like an Irish sigh,
Mother Mary with whiskey eyes
drinks away in teary rye,
me dear ole Maggie,
has no reply.
Her fiery hair lights
darkning nights,
she's like a potato famine
with no end in sight,
she's never wrong,
and hardly right,
me dear ole Maggie,
freedom's delight.
She sings in tones,
so soft, so lilting,
it eases my mind,
even though she's a wilting
Irish rose reciting prose,
her sweet tenor stilting
the notes better than life,
better than the words,
they'll make you a wife,
if you mean them,
then sing it gladly,
for it will come your way,
me dear ole Maggie

Good write. It made me think of the song "Little Maggie" by Bob Dylan. Ekoostik Hookah preforms it quite well if you're interested. Anyways, I enjoy your work. Much peace to you. Laura |

I especially liked your use of "me dear ole Maggie" throughout the poem. You can't help but say it out loud. Great write! Although potato famine may be a little cliche. |

Molto Buono... I don't speak Italian, so don't correct the spelling, there... |
