The rumor that spread my love

With the same rumor`s rise my precious life stands fast
Good fortune is granted to many who know this not
The village gave this rumor, which made her my person
Unfolding all the rareness of the maid, with flower like vision
If the rumor spreads round the town, is it not gain to me?
It is as though something will be obtained, that may not be
This rumor rising from the village makes my love to rise
My love will lose its power, and will languish otherwise
The more one drinks, the more thy ever drunk would be
The more my love is revealed, the sweeter it is to me
I saw her but one day, when the rumor had spread soon
As darkness spreads, if the dragon swallows the moon
My anguish grows apace, beyond the town`s report
Manures it and my mother`s words even doth water it
With butter and oil, to extinguish fire! “it will prove
It is very much harder by scandal, to extinguish love
When thy who said ‘Fear not!’ hath left me blamed
While many shrink, from rumor can I hide ashamed?
If we desire, that our love will grant what we require
This town sends forth the rumor that we desire!
