Farewelling the Child

Contributed by spike on Tuesday, 8th March 2005 @ 05:11:55 AM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

The house is too big without you,
The long corridors echoing with footfalls
The silence, heavy and oppressive,
As I take the slow pulse of the walls

- Gone

Your room is like an empty shell,
The chick has pecked free and fled the nest
The emptiness ripples like a stone in a well,
The thump, thump, thumping in the hollow breast

- Away

No more your raucous tones cutting the air,
The detritus of your life trailing like a comet’s tail
So many things you did drove me to despair,
Relationships can seem so frail

- For now.

Nicely done. Seee I keep telling my mum that she'd miss me if I left home, me being the youngest of eight, but she doesn't believe me. *grins* I like this one, deep, expressive and insightful, thanks for sharing.

Take Care

It'll be years before I know the enormity of this. But the thump, thump, thumping... tells me it's a lot bigger than the words on the page. *sigh*

Knowing not how one let's go of the comet's tail,

Well, you got the feeling right down to the last teardrop. That is the most empty feeling I have ever felt. I didn't realize how much of my life was tied up with theirs. I really can't believe how well you captured it. Dove
