Sorrow is...

Sorrow is like a dripping facet in the dead of night when no one is home,
Or a never ringing phone
Like boredom and too much to do
Like never winning at Clue
Like the last dance with her
To the same song played over and over
Like a child trapped in a mall
Or maybe a lion with nothing to maul
Like the last drag of the last cigarette
Like a forgotten tea set
Like a guilty conscience
Buried under three feet of snow falling at once
Like a tornado though a safe haven
The house uneven
Like Cinderella’s slipper smashed to bits
Like a burnt home void of remnants
Like waiting eternity for your dead prince charming
Then finding him buried with another, alarming
Like a large drop
In your most invested stock
Like oxygen in the ocean
Never ending problems with fractions
Like the last of your kind
Like loan sharks, you’re in a bind
Like a void, all alone
Sins I must atone.
