Desmond

Contributed by AJG on Monday, 16th December 2002 @ 02:40:00 PM in AEST
Topic: political

Desmond peers silently at me through the
Steel bars
Looking less sad than perplexed
A bearly detectable vibration
Occupies his perch

You think a rickety wooden swing
Replaces the loss of adventure?
Maybe you're under the illusion that I'm
Protected from the aggression of
Scavenging seagulls or
Menacing pains of glass.

A bedsheet hardly makes up for the
Setting sun.
You're not fooling anyone.

Just once I'd like to wrestle a
Juicy worm to submit
Rather than plunking my neck into the
Perpetual bowl of millet
You provide so generously.

Line my cell with the classifieds
But you don't allow me pockets for change
My sense of irony has yet to be clipped.

Will you get the message if I
Stop chirping?
