Learn From Others Mistakes

Contributed by outsider on Sunday, 21st July 2002 @ 09:37:25 AM in AEST
Topic: Tributes

Why did you pop into my head today?
I haven't thought of you in a while.
I shouldn't have been looking back
None of these thoughts make me smile.

Respect your elders and betters, hmmm
Thats what I was taught as a child
Funny, I have learned that it has to be earned
Not given freely to the violently wild.

Was your last thought of me as you died
Did you regret missing all those birthdays?
All the cards you never sent
How you let me down in countless ways.

* * * * * * * * * * *

Did you ever love me, I wonder, when I was a boy
Was your defenition of love wrapped up in your oversized fist
As it sped through the window towards me...
Did you shower me with love with splintered glass...
And did the impact of your feeling bowl me over...
I wonder if you were filled with pride that my earliest memory is of you
Christmas day, I am three and you trample my dreams in two...
I remember your enormous boot larger than my head
And the speed it crashed down on me and Santa's gift

And my broken hand.

Thank you, my father for helping to create me
And for not bringing me up.
I am what I am in spite of you not because of you
And I am glad to learn from your mistakes.

I beleive this is real, and I can really feel this one. NOt a lovely way to grow up is it. I Feel for you, but at least you put your feelings into writing, the pain, anger sought from this, but done so well. I'm sorry for your father, but you have done well, for your own self worth mattered to live without his ways, and not live in self pity. Good , but very sad write.
Amber Rose :)
