Poem Written On a Shadowed Day

Contributed by MinnesotaRose on Saturday, 5th March 2005 @ 06:56:05 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

She sits alone in a room
Eating corn flakes.
A bed, a table, a couple of chairs,
A small TV, hair colored over gray,
A small luxury, dignity,
She affords herself.
This isn't the way
She had pictured it, you know,
When she was fresh, and young,
There was someone once, forever ago,
That one to grow old with,
That haven for life,
Whatever happened to him,
He could be dead now
For all she knew, she didn't know.
She has her moments,
She knows, others have it worse,
No shelter, without warmth,
Sifting through garbage,
She knows she is living
Closer to there
Than anyone she knows,
She doesn't think about that,
Right now, about old friends,
From school, old jobs,
They have their lives, their distractions,
Over time they've lost touch,
She left it that way.
From a window she watches
Her street, cars going by,
People carrying things, children,
Sometimes a dog, a stray.
Someone once told her
If you stay in one place, long enough,
Eventually, the entire world
Will pass you by.
She waits, and watches,
For that moment to happen.

Wow... I am fifteen. I don't want to have to end up relating to this one. Not in the least bit. If I am on my death bed and I am looking back regretting or asking myself "what if" my life will be a failure. I want to be conent with my life, I want to be happy with all that I have done and have no regrets. This poem will help remind myself to not be like this... thanks for a great write...
