In this silence
I wanted light
To burn all the shame
That I’m feeling today
Pure compliance
Died with the night
But I slept the same
Tossing in the hallway
Dreams seemed to sing in my ears
But my comforts soon turned to fears
All I had left was what I’d done wrong
They stayed until dawn
On this morning
I missed the sun
Jogging away
And too tired to wave
Guilt was forming
From what I had done
I had to pay
With the nothing I saved
I don’t need hurt anymore
Because my being’s already sore
The false pain that I make has taken its toll
I’m feeling so old
