HERE... TONIGHT

Contributed by Stitch on Tuesday, 1st March 2005 @ 07:32:26 PM in AEST
Topic: goodbyepoetry

I came here tonight to see
if the sickness had lifted
It had not
All of you there
strung out in lines
parading your misery
like ulcers
I watched as more unfolded
passionate trysts
knotted in garish lyrics
---a flag of anthems
stained with the deep red of dried-blood,
but rolling ever forward ...
or backward
Either way, I couldn't stay
my eyes have witnessed the gruesome,
and they no longer care to behold
even in shadow,
the words of this harsh light too glaring
I came here tonight
to see if the disease had abated,
but it has not

That is some powerful writing. I sense both anger and that " I've had all I can stand "
feeling. Very impressive

I think this is one of your best sweetie, and it is better written than many poems I have seen.
I agree with Jarred, this is very atmospheric, but also rather sad.

Stunning write my friend,
I wish I could say more.
*hugs* Phil xxx

This was depressingly real to me. Have I ever suffered an epiphany - so interestingly phrased.

This was a strong poem, even in its apparent dismay.

Thanks, Stitch, for sharing.

You have a very creative mind. You use words that describe so well. I need that dictionary lol. You paint a picture with words did you know that. You always have me thinking. I sometimes sit and read over and over till I understand it and then I respond. Your work deserves much more then a website.

Stitch you write a very vivid description of all the ills in this world. Just these words make the poem so effective.
I came here tonight
to see if the disease had abated,
but it has not
Great write top marks from bernard.

*notes the date at the top of the page*

I remember the first time I read this... and I remember finding it impossible to comment. I still... don't quite know what to say. Looking entirely beyond the "here"... I find this... positive, strong, forward looking, and... sad (for the poet in me cannot help but struggle a bit at the thought of an empty page, you know?).

On the upside, Stitchy... I have you (in my mind's eye) riding off with the tires squealing and the pedal to the floor. *smiles* And I know... that should you ever want/need to take a break and stop for dinner - that I can be there (and would - without hesitation) within short order. Just remind me, next time, to order a side of coffee with my wine *wink*.

Wishing you all the wonderful things that you deserve and sending along hugs for the entire family,
~Snem~

I can't tell you how many times I've been here. I can't count the number of times I have read and reviewed these words. I can see their application in many aspects of life ... and even here ... this site, these people that we know and have come to call friends. Some fight depression, some fight the desire to self mutilate, some fight with each other, while others still, sing vulgar songs of wanting what can't be had. It puts perspective into the eclectic nature of those driven by words. The disease ... poetry ... voices ... insanity .... a thirst for knowledge ... a hunger for passion ... Like the disease of alcohol addiction, it can not be cured, managed perhaps ... but it will always be a part of the individual ... waiting ... just below the surface, for the time to speak out again.

I appreciate what has been said here Stitch. I hope the peace found, remains with you always. The need abated. Funny how the desire hangs around sometimes though ... if the need returns ... you will know where to find us ... hidden here within the words ... feeding our addiction.

God bless you my friend.

Nazzy ~

I've felt this... I didn't realize it until I read your poem, but... that's what it was... it must've been. Wow.

Beautiful, perfect words. The true art of poetry.

Love and peace,

Some write in order to remove pain
Some write fantasy, for things that may never happen
Some write suicide notes in a poem
Some write, a simple Britch session turned into a poem
Some write for fun
Some write to discover something in themselves
Some write in order to find a meaning in their lives
Some write in order to grasp onto the meaning they find in themselves
Some write about events
Some write about love
Some write simple (me)
Some write to send out a message through teaching
Some write to reaveal a secret
Some write because they want to be discovered as a poet
Some write to leave something in the world when they move on to heaven.

Yes, I have. I take my time in reading poems, looking for deeper meanings.

Some people read fast
Some people read slow
Some want the words to be right in front of them
Some, like me, look for the hidden deeper meanings in the message written.. the Poem

Suffering an epiphany as I speak lol.

Very nice illuminating write my friend. Intellectual that is.

Raquel Leah :D
