Faces

Faces

If you passed me on the street
Would you give me your time?
A dirty homeless person like me
Who doesn’t have a dime
Or would you keep walking?
Pretending not to care
Even as I reach out for help
With my meaningful stare

Would you get in your car?
Erase my memory away
Turn on some music
And go on about your day
Or would you wonder why I’m here?
What could of happen in my life?
Do I have any kids?
Did I once have a wife?

How can a man lose everything?
That he lives on the street
How can his daily ambition
Be to get something to eat
Well, I’ve wondered that too
How did I get here?
Looking at faces
Wondering if they care

Do I not have a heart?
Do I not have a soul?
Am I not one of God’s children?
Living here below
For whatever the reason
My life’s gone astray
Shouldn’t mean I should live like this
One more day

Maybe all it would take is just one person
To reach out and lend me a hand
And save me from dying
In life’s quicksand
But I’ve been wondering
Could it possibly be true?
That the one person to save me
Possibly be you?
