I remember when I was young,
a sappling newly grown,
you used to come and visit me,
as if i were your own.
You would tell me stories,
of kingdoms far away,
and there we d stay for hours,
until the break of day.
I remember when I was beautiful,
My colours and spirit were bright.
You and your love would sit by me,
and stay into the night.
You would always admire me,
and say how much i'd grown.
And your secrets you would whisper,
that no one else had known.
I remember when i had aged,
many years had past.
My skin and form had twisted,
My vibrance didn't last.
You had long forgotten me,
Left me on my own
No one else came to visit,
I stood there all alone.
Now i am old and dying,
my branches hanging low.
My colours have all faded,
my leves no longer grow.
You have never returned,
and i remain here all alone,
but i will always remember,
those days as a sappling newly grown.

I'm surprised this poem doesn't have more comments. This is such a well written piece. Your use of imagery was great and I like your metaphor with the tree and the sapling. Very well done. Five stars from me. |
