Lament Sonnet

A single tear fell, it became a lake.
From a pale cheek that tear trailed
Down the soft skin, a sharp intake
Of breath and all words failed.
From what should have been fate
Became something to upset:
A mistake for a lifelong mate
Is now just a memory of regret.
Painful and true, this memory
Is scarred with hatred and gall.
An act of serendipity
Broke this emotional wall.
When tears became lakes inside,
The dam fell, and the soul died.
