O, Time, why must you chime and chide,
Remove me from my lover's arms?
Into the infinities you hide
To keep from being brought to harms.
Thou wrest me from my lover's kiss,
Deprive me of her company.
But as you swing your scythe, know this:
The sands of your glass are naught to me.
For though your hands pull her from here,
Those hands will come full-circle back.
This fact shall reassure all fear,
For will to choose is choice you will lack.
And so, in time, she'll back again,
Our motions Donne in both respects.
While you are forced to watch in pain
As neither one the other neglects.
Your scythe is broke, your weakness found,
For strong is our love, and timeless is she.
Your sands are stopped, your hands are bound,
For, in this verse, we lay outside of thee. . .
