We never really felt true, meaningful love,
It's like he was a raven and I was a dove.
He liked to party, to dance, and have fun,
But he also liked to drink, and I'd have to run.
He'd get angry, I'd be fearful.
By the time he was done,
I was past tearful.
When he'd go into these fits,
I was so scared.
As I took in the bruising hits,
He didn't even care.
There is silence after he goes to sleep,
He dreams happy, sweet dreams.
He never knew that on those nights I'd weep,
He never heard my frightened screams.
So now I'm telling you this story,
Please don't make the mistake I once made.
Choose someone that will never make you sorry,
Don't pay the price that I once paid.

| Right on sister! I too was in the grip of an alcoholic man, many, many moons ago. It didn't take but a few good beatings and I was out of there. He had threatened to kill me if I ever left, but it got to the point I didn't care. If death were to come so be it, it was better than the life with him. And I am still here so.... I survived. NO PERSON should have to put up with someone hitting them. NO PERSON!. And there is always a way out. Much peace. PM me if you ever want to chat. Much peace to you. Laura |

So sad this write, and it really hits home. So many of the children I work with experience this on a daily basis. Seeing their mother abused as well as being abused themselves.
So many of them hit the streets for security.
Thank you for this meaningful write.
