The Gardener

Topic: HumorPoetry

A gardener of the first degree
A man with first class pedigree

Developed an unusual tree
And named it Joie de Vivre.

It produced apple, orange, and plum
And a flower much like chrysanthemum

The man was called a genius by some
But others thought him tiresome

Because he had not much to say
about things happening day to day

his time was spent on Botany
and his unusual fruit-filled tree.

but now that he’s a millionaire
his fans have come from far and near

to hear him talk about botany
regardless of the monotony.

They listen closely to each word
taking notes on all they’ve heard

Not because of Joie de Vivre
but how he’s made his money!

He smiles and speaks of growing trees
Of nature and its mysteries

How it’s made him rich of heart
from other science it stands apart.

He goes on and on ad nauseam
until they’ve had enough of him

and leaves him to his gardening.
The man smiles and while he’s digging

He finds a nugget large and round
About the twenty-third he’s found.

He quietly hides the gold away
And digs for most the rest the day

And, though he loves his gardening
The bottom line’s the important thing.
