I dreamt of words

I dreamt of words last night,
loud and hysterical,
choking and gagging,
wheezing and sneezing.
Phrases run upon phrases
each with meaning and non-judgement.
In a haze of narcotic wonderment,
I wake to find these same words
tumble and fall
from my mind
in slow motion,
slow like the last moments before a fatal impact,
agonizing minutes,
crawling by like hours,
before it's all over.

Great poem! I really identify with your thought process, and your way of writing helps bring that out of you.
I dreamt of words last night,
loud and hysterical,
I love the opening lines. "I dreamt of words last night"---that is very striking, warm feeling, enchanting, lovely, meaningful in a way that I cannot describe. "loud and hysterical"----reminds me of Allen Ginsberg's poem Howl, which I'm sure you've read. He uses the word hysterical in his first line or two, I think it's a great word to use in a poem....I've used it myself in my poem, "An abstract life story"
Phrases run upon phrases
each with meaning and non-judgement.
I thought that was very insightful. I can relate to the "non-judgement" part. The ability to approach life in a non-judgemental fashion, I think, is very wise because we do not attach to certain outcomes. The problem to attaching to certain outcomes is that a lot of times, what we want to happen, is not the way that it is, and so that causes us to suffer. When we can allow things to be what they are, non-judgementally then we can flow with life, content with what is which saves us from uneccessary pain and suffering. And I think this relates to writing as well, because when we can allow ourselves to "just write" without judgement, then we are opening ourselves up to the possibilities that exist within ourselves as writers. This is when unexpected breakthroughs and insights can occur, because I believe that we are all wise and intelligent at the core of ourselves. We just have to open ourselves up to ourselves, if that makes any sense.
The image you used at the end of your poem was very interesting too. I enjoyed reading this very much.
