Muse's Death
Poets metaphorically die
For your attention
And you stand by coldly
Waiting till the blood stains
The torn paper with dried ink
Poets write for themselves
And dedicate inspiration to their muses
While you read their words uncaring
About their meaning and hidden beauty
Poets kill themselves to give their words life
And you only grab a pen and scratch it out
Till the ink spills on new wounds of perception
And leaves the crumpled paper imperfection
Poets die tragically
Wanting your appreciation
And then die when they get none of it
They get criticism or nothing
But you get what you wanted
Less competition

Wow! I loved this poem! The imagery was terrific and it flowed beautifully. Hopefully the last two lines aren't really about poets on YPDC. I know I'm still rather new here but I have never felt like I was in any kind of competition. Geez, that would suck. I just love to write and love to read! Anyway, great write!
