I breathe in this suffocating incense
It swims through my veins where your soul used to flow
Inhale – the reincarnation of you in this holy smoke
I breathe deeper, craving your air in my heart
I close my eyes, feel the burn
(I choke)
Black tar consumes
Lungs that used to give so easily
Your air used to be oxygen to me
But now I can hardly breathe
(My dirty addiction)
(Everybody told me it was prolonged suicide)
(Give up before it’s too late, they said)
(And jesus, god knows how I tried)
Blood drips from innocent lips
These dark, dirty stains that used to be your lipstick
Your perfume so overwhelming – I gasp
This painful, horrible moment of bliss
You lean in for a kiss
And I pray to god that it’s the last

wow Lucie a very good poem I was surprised
and pleased to see another poem by you. To
put it bluntly I loved it and the imagery you put
in this has been imprinted in my head. I liked
how you compared smoking to love it was
unique and an interesting take on things. I will
shut up and go read it again... thanks for
sharing this.
Love ya,
Joel |

Interesting metaphore. you took a trite subject and created a highly creative poem. Not an easy feat to accomplish with such skill. Wonderful job. |
