Sally was swinging left to right,
Held by a rope,
Tied so tight.
The air was still
The wind blew by,
Creating a chill
Throughout the sky.
From a tree,
Where Sally hung
A small bird sat
And this it sung:
“Pretty young girl,
Why oh why
Would you do something like this.
Why oh why
Would you let yourself die?”
On that late Monday
The grass was still green
But young Billy’s parents
Were just too mean.
He went outside
To the tree,
Where he cut shapes into his knee.
He pulled the knife back
Below his heart
Then stabbed himself,
Waiting for the pain to start.
Up in the tree
Sat a little bird,
And through the park
Its song could be heard,
“Handsome strong boy,
Why oh why
Would you do something like this.
Why oh why
Would you let yourself die?”
On that October
The sun had just set.
It was by a tree
Where a gun and I met.
I couldn’t stand breaking people’s hearts,
Ruining lives, and cutting
Myself with unwashed knives.
So I positioned the gun.
On my left temple
Pulled the trigger,
And then it was done.
Once again,
The little bird stared
But this time no one was there to hear.
The little blue, bird sang anyway,
Hoping that this was the last of the days.
“Beautiful young lady
Please be the last,
I can’t spend my days
Wondering why,
Why oh why,
Did all of you want to die?”

Man this is so sad. Great poem though but still so sad. I can relate to this. But I am not dead though.

I have to say it, when the boy was plunging that knife into himself, it was too vivid for words. That was the point at which this poem that really struck me, and just dragged you through the dirt so to speak. It was really an intense story I must say, and I dont think I've seen many poems written in the format of having different stories all tied together with that one recurring theme (in this case, the little blue bird) and it was quite refreshing I must say. Outstanding piece of work you have here! |
