The Morning After

Contributed by Rae on Friday, 18th February 2005 @ 01:23:31 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

i will not be seeing you
walk through that door again,
or will anyone else's back
be the same as yours.
the sky was red and
the trees were black,
it wasn't everything that it was then.
i wanted to stand by the clocks and
move their hands
forward and retreating
for confusion forces us
to think and hate ourselves.
pensive as you were
the day the film ran out,
the atmosphere sombre as ever.
bring me an elephant,
a cow,
a dog,
or pause before me with
your hands in your pockets.
i could stay restless
confronting this announcement
of long secrecy and wanting.
you have your own fashion
of making me look back
or giving me thoughts of
the circus, the oceanwaves,
and of a home.
when pleasure burned ever
within our bosoms
and hands wanting to run
across our backs,
regardless of what they think,
nothing will happen.
no fruit will be born out of this unity.
step down.
let us polish the floors and
prohibit ourselves from
sharpening knives and
giving fake smiles.
it just would not be worth it.
let us put into consideration
our daydreams and ambitions,
and conceive a compromise
that would treat us
like works of art;
precious, untouchable.

The circus, eh?

I am intrigued. This was well-written.

Keep writing.
