You Can't Know

Contributed by xXcrossedXx on Thursday, 17th February 2005 @ 08:52:54 PM in AEST
Topic: ambiguous

When people come,
I wear a mask.
I have a different one
For each person,
Each place.
The worst of it is
I hate myself so much
I have one for myself.
I wear a mask everyday
Everywhere – for everyone.
It never comes off, it just
Switches a shade.
Tricking everybody that plays
My game.
I’m a big mystery
Everyone wants to see,
Amanda Carr.
They want to know who I am
And how I can do the things I can.
They wonder why I sit here writing
Why my face is stained from crying.
When they ask, I switch my mask
And put on another show,
For Amanda Carr, they will never know.

such an emotional piece. i really was surprised that u addressed the idea of masks so well. it's an idea i've toyed with, and wanted to write about for a while, but i guess i just wasnt up to it. i'm glad u were though. this is so grounded in reality, u really made a point about who we all are with people, and how everybody around us can be truly clueless as to who we truly are behind all the exterior personas we use with them. Intelligent and insightful write here, very enjoyable.

good poem, some call it a mask others call it a facade.the only way that the mask can come off is to open up your heart, don't be afraid of being hurt, its just a part of life and each lesson makes us stronger.
sojourner,
