Stop Writing

Contributed by essentially9 on Tuesday, 15th February 2005 @ 09:28:38 PM in AEST
Topic: poets

Stop Writing

You live for compliments
That aren't truthfully meant

You can't take perspective
About the written imperfection
That says your poem is ****

You ask for comments
With the truth bent
You demand and beg
Till something is said

And then you complain
When words inflict pain

Grow up and take it
Stop being so pathetic

You take everything
With no thought to give anything

If you don't want the truth
Then don't ask for reviews
If you want to believe a lie
Then give imagination a try

Posted spelling errors across the page
Your rough drafts need to be erased
And it only increases my rage
When talent is what you try to feign
With a poem of no name

Your poems aren't worth reading
When you begin by begging

Or when you can't write them to begin with

Ouch. I'm not sure who this is addressed to, but a heavy dose of truth can be hard to take.

The art of teaching is to begin with praise..and then to teach where the teaching is needed.. give commendation first.. It is always so easy to tear down..and rip apart when we ourselves are so imperfect.. this is so sad.. qnd to see applause for it is even sadder..it reminds me of blood being poured out in ancient Rome.. I have to ask why one wants to tear another person down?

This must be what it's like when the truth hits you right over your head. Both a wonderful and truthful right. Absolutely fabulous ;-)

If you have a problem with someone's poetry, don't read it. Just because it asks for comments doesn't mean you're forced to look at it. Worry about yourself instead of criticizing someone else.

This is supposed to be a site of self expression, not a test on grammar.

Although, I believe you have a good point regarding that someone shouldn't get mad when they are being given constructive criticism, it seems to me if this poem is directed to someone specific then maybe you should tell them. This site is about self expression whether they do it in a way you like or not. So to avoid future problems maybe you should refrain from reading the poems.

That's the addiction of YPDC for some. To me it was all about the enjoyment of bettering myself and others . . .
