Kissing the Wolf

I didn’t quite know how to intro this …
I was inspired by the three words of the title. From there, I drew on fact and fantasy, what I know and what I wish I knew. It … presented itself …as two poems at once, kind of like two voices speaking at the same time. But in truth it was one voice, speaking to two audiences, sort of a Shakespearean Mac Beth kind of thing. The italicized lines are soliloqual, much like mental sidebars, or … Whispers to a confidant ~
I think holding true to meter was more challenging than maintaining the rhyme scheme
~ Anyway … before I lose you … here it is ~

She looked strangely out of place
With her soft angelic face
And the eyes of a predator within
The knowing was too much for me
I had to look away
She asked, “What is it you see
Every time you look at me?”
Once she had finally caught my gaze again
I stood frozen in the moment
Afraid of what I’d say
“I can see it in your eyes
And you know you can’t disguise
The hint of pain you show me now and then.”
Perhaps I’d hidden from the truth
This time for much too long
I said, “You’re not what you seem
There is something else that gleams
Hiding behind the smile you show to men”
She tried hard to convince herself
The chance I might be wrong
“I see a passion there that burns
Every time your head is turned
Concealing such a gift should be a sin”
I’d stepped too far over the line
To think of using tact
As she shed her sheeply clothes
And became what she feared most
I’m certain that she did it with a grin
I touched my lips to hers and found ~
The Wolf was kissing back

Words of a true poet, cherie... Incredible piece. Such depth and emotion... The shedding of sheep's clothing, and revealing what is truly within... Amazing. You have emphasized your talent by sharing this.... It is always growing and becoming more vibrant.. Lovely images, excellent flow, just utterly enchanting all the way!! LOVED IT!!

bravo, bravo. this was an amazing poem I am speechless...I am with out speech. the level of imigery here is perfect, I loved how you seperated the thought patterns, it added to the intensity of it. it is amazing how you set it up the she is not happy with whaty she is and is trying to hide it but cant and then finaty stops trying to be something eles and is just herself, and the fact the you were there for her when she did just made it all the better. very very good writ, please do post again, be strong and God bless.

Wow Naz, So creative and profound. In reading the poem it felt like the inner dialogue was like a conversation between the ego and super-ego. A thought ..... what seemed to be became what was.....?
