You Follow Me

After all this time
Still a mystery to me,
A loaded memory.
So many explosions
Of foreign emotion,
When I hear your name-
Love has never felt the same.
Even when we’re bad it seems we’re good,
Even after I’ve done just what I should,
Even though I wouldn’t turn time if I could,
You follow me.
You are always there, though never so close,
That I can touch you like I used to,
But closer to my heart,
Than when you laid here by my side.
I know where your loyalties lie,
Even if I can’t see it swimming in your eyes,
You follow me.
So tired of looking over my shoulder,
Just when I think I’ve grown a little bolder,
And I really need someone to hold me-
But I look behind to say goodbye, and you won’t set me free,
You follow me.

This is so beautiful, Juliette. A sad yet lovely poem. You create so many vivid images. I enjoyed this piece very much. |
